Happy New Year

Note: Intentionally Cheesy. Possibly Premature.

SBM Fam,

2012 was an amazing year for SBM. By the time you read this, it’ll most likely be 2013; but we didn’t want to go out without reflecting on the past year. One thing we’d like to emphasize is how grateful we are for your support. Whether it’s been one week or one year, you’ve helped us get to where we are today. That’s a highlight in itself. But here are a few of the others:

We Were Recognized as One of Top 20 Online Voices by Black Enterprise

We were fortunate enough to be recognized by Black Enterprise. They select 20 sites/influencers each year that are making a difference. In 2012, we were one of them. It’s one of our greatest accomplishments to date and hopefully a sign of what’s to come in 2013.

We Revamped the Layout

Our logo has changed. The layout has changed. We’ve changed for the better. We’re consistently looking at the site layout and figuring out how we can improve the user experience. Readers first. Everything else afterward.

We Introduced New Voices

Diversity of perspective is a key to change. Diversity of topics is the key to keeping people interested. In 2012, we ventured outside of relationships and started talking sports, pop culture, music, current events and more on a regular basis. Since we all have day jobs, we had to bring in new contributors with fresh thoughts. It creates a whole new level of complexity behind the scenes, but it also makes us better.

We Sponsored the Ray of Hope Walk Against Domestic Violence

This year we put money and time in as a sponsor for the Ray of Hope Walk orchestrated by Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. We had a few posts go up about DV and were present at the walk on a brisk day in October.

As men with a platform, we realized that we needed to stand for something greater. We’ve selected a few causes we’re passionate about and domestic violence is one of them. The walk was the perfect opportunity to get involved.

This was the first of many community-oriented sponsorships. We’re not just trying to write. We’re trying to make a difference. We hope you’ll be there with us in 2013 to promote these causes.

One of Us Went on to Work for one of the Most Known Online Publications in Existence

To go from writing on SBM to working for a major publication speaks to the hard work and credibility we’ve built. When one of us wins, we all win. Another one of us has strong hopes of doing the same in 2013. Hopefully there will be good news to report.

We Broke Records…Repeatedly

We broke site traffic records in each of the last three months. And it wasn’t “just beating” the records. We blew them out the water.

All in all, it was a great year for the site. We underwent a lot of change, but we also saw dramatic results. We look forward to 2013 and having you along with us for the journey. Let’s get this party started.
